Term: security
Definition: see also data security, communications security. The state of certainty that computerized data and program files cannot be accessed, obtained, or modified by unauthorized personnel or the computer or its programs. Security is implemented by restricting the physical area around the computer system to authorized personnel, using special software and the security built into the operating procedure of the computer. When applied to computer systems and networks denotes the authorized, correct, timely performance of computing tasks. It encompasses the areas of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
