Term:
repeater
Definition:
a device used to extend the length, topology, or
interconnectivity of the physical medium beyond that
imposed by a single segment, up to the maximum allowable
end-to-end trunk transmission line length by copying
electrical signals from one network segment to another.
Because repeaters transfer electrical impulses rather than
data packets they may also transfer noise.
