Term: public key cryptosystem
Definition: an encryption methodology that depends on two keys: a public key--made available to anyone who wants to encrypt information--is used for the encryption process, and a private key--known only to the owner--is used for the decryption process. The two keys are mathematically related. Also termed asymmetric encryption.
