Term: packet
Definition: a block of data for data transmission. Each packet contains control information, such as routing, address and error control--as well as data; a group of data and control characters in a specified format, transferred as a whole; a group of binary digits, including data and call control signals, which is switched as a composite whole; the data, all control signals, and possibly error control information are arranged in a specific format.
