Term: IEEE 802.3
Definition: IEEE 802.3 is a bus network that uses CSMA/CD across either broadband or baseband. The baseband version is based on the Ethernet definition originated by Xerox (and supported by DEC and 3COM). The methods currently (1997) defined are: 100BaseT, 100 Mbps over Unshielded Twisted Pair; 100BaseTX/Fast ethernet, 100 Mbps over UTP/STP; 10Base2/Thinnet, 10 Mbps over 50 ohm thin coax; 10Base5/Thicknet, 10 Mbps over 50 ohm thick coax backbone; 10BaseT/Twisted Pair, 10 Mbps over Twisted Pair.
