Glossary of Data Communications Terms

Term: frame
Definition: in data transmission, the sequence of contiguous bits bracketed by and including beginning and ending flag sequences. A typical frame might consist of a specified number of bits between flags and contain an address field, a control field, and a frame check sequence. A frame may or may not include an information field. A transmission unit that carries a protocol data unit (PDU).
