Glossary of Data Communications Terms

Term: Ethernet
Definition: A network cable and access protocol scheme originally developed by DEC, Intel and Xerox but now marketed primarily by DEC and 3Com; a local area network and its associated protocol developed (but not limited to) Xerox. Ethernet is a baseband system. Often used as a synonym for IEEE 802.3 CSMA/CD LAN Standard (ISO 8802.3). See also, IEEE802.3.
