Term:
distributed data processing (DDP)
Definition:
an organization of information processing such that both
processing and data may be distributed over a number of
different machines in one or more locations; a technique to
enable multiple computers to cooperate in the completion of
tasks, typically in a networked environment. Each computer
that contributes to the completion of the total task
actually does so by completing one or more individual
subtasks independently of its peers, reporting the results
from its subtasks as they are completed.
