Term: code
Definition: a technique by which the basic elements of language, such as syllables, words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs, are disguised through being replaced by other, usually shorter, arbitrarily selected language elements, requiring a codebook (table) for translation. A term not generally used in relation to encryption. Not to be confused with cipher.
